Now we have many smiles and fingers that caress the walls. Families feel their loved ones are in a home and not in an institution. Staff find the murals gentle and helpful. The residents react to one or another painted scene, giving a little sense to their continuous wandering.
By integrating the residents of the elderly home in the process of creating the murals, we had them participate. The various sketches developed by the Anouk Foundation painters were submitted to the residents, who expressed their chooses. Then, several of the residents gave a hand to the painters, which made them feel esteemed and special!

Our ward is much calmer now and our occupational therapist states that the patients are now attentive to their surroundings and express their feelings.

We had an independent impact study done and the result states clearly that the Anouk project has a positive impact on both residents and staff. The therapeutic murals clearly energizes the institution by removing the impersonal aspect, stimulates the attention and brings cheerfulness.

Some residents took pleasure in chatting, congratulating and visiting the work in progress. In the door corners, roes, cows, cats, dogs and squirrels appeared, becoming visual aids for the residents to find their rooms more easily and in a fun way. The artists’ artwork will continue to brighten the daily lives of residents, families, visitors and staff for many years to come…

It finally brings some colour and it's very pleasant, it changes the grey and it puts you in a good mood, you'd think you were on holiday, it makes you want to go. I really liked the artists who took care of it, I often come to look at it and stay a while to discover the animals that live there, we rediscover the swallows, the cats, the squirrels.

It is much more than just a decoration; it’s a breath of fresh air, a connection to the outside world, an anchor for memories. It’s important to create landmarks in the lives of those living with Alzheimer disease.

The project improves the quality of life of our residents. It offers collective and personal experiences that motivate and ensure emotional well-being. The mural initiates a dynamic between the residents and the world around them.

The residents and visitors were very touched and found the murals very beautiful, without a doubt they help residents find their way around the nursing home.

These murals are important as they have given our nursing home a new identity, making it more soothing and serene. They are very much appreciated by the residents and give us an opportunity to create conversations around them.

Bringing art and creativity into a place that is medical and hospital-like, has above all brought LIFE into our institution.

What is very beautiful about this method of therapeutic murals is that they transmit experiences and recall memories. It‘s the outside coming inside, it‘s the possibility of projecting oneself outside the walls even where there are no windows. You forget that you are in a functional place, that of a medical-social institution.
